The independent lifeline required alongside any hoist for OSHA-compliant confined space entry. Two SRLs — one for dedicated fall arrest, one that adds emergency retrieval and work positioning. Both arrest falls within 2 feet.

Standard Self-Retracting Lifelines

PSRL1125 / PSRL1150 — Dedicated Fall Arrest

The independent lifeline for confined space entry — provides the fall arrest protection OSHA requires alongside a hoist. Internal components in bronze, stainless steel, and aluminum are built for corrosive and wet environments without adding weight. The stress indicator on the housing changes state if the unit has arrested a fall, making it immediately obvious that the SRL needs to be taken out of service. Standard SRLs arrest falls only — they provide no retrieval capability. Pair with a PH Series Personnel Hoist on the same anchor system to cover both requirements. Available in 25′ or 50′, stainless steel cable or Technora® rope for electrically hazardous environments.

3-Way Self-Retracting Lifeline

PSRL1350 / PSRL03100 — 3-in-1

Three functions in a single unit: fall arrest, emergency retrieval, and work positioning. When a worker enters a confined space by ladder or is lowered mechanically, the 3-Way serves as the independent lifeline — it arrests any fall within 2 feet. If a rescue is needed, the unit activates into winch mode, allowing the rescuer to raise or lower the entrant to safety. The positioning function holds the worker in place at any point along the descent. Standard length is 50′ (PSRL1350); a 100′ extended model is available (PSRL03100-SS, stainless steel only at 50 lbs). The retrieval and positioning functions are for emergencies and work access — not for routine raising and lowering. Use a PH Series hoist for everyday entry and exit.

After-Fall Rules & Recertification

What happens after the SRL arrests a fall or reaches its recertification interval?

Standard SRL — After a Fall

Remove from service immediately

If the stress indicator has activated, the unit must not be returned to service. The SRL must be replaced — it cannot be recertified after arresting a fall.

3-Way SRL — Routine Recertification

Every 3 years or remove from service immediately after a fall

The 3-Way requires formal recertification every three years under normal use. After arresting a fall, it must also be removed from service and replaced immediately — the same rule as the Standard SRL.

Pairing with a Hoist

An SRL is the independent lifeline — not a replacement for a hoist. Both are required for OSHA 1910.146 compliance.

Best for routine confined space entry programs

The Standard SRL runs as the independent fall arrest lifeline. The PH Series hoist handles all controlled raising and lowering — entry, descent, and retrieval. Each device does one job and does it well. Brackets: MB-FSB for SRL, MB-PF1 for hoist (LifeGuard/Davit) or MB-FST + MB-TL1 for Tripod.

When one unit needs to cover fall arrest + emergency rescue

The 3-Way handles fall arrest and provides emergency retrieval via winch mode. No PH hoist required when only emergency retrieval capability is needed. Bracket: MB-FSB (LifeGuard/Davit) or MB-FST (Tripod). Note: the 3-Way is not rated for routine raising and lowering — if daily entry/exit via hoist is needed, add a PH Series hoist.
